Give the Gift of Reading // United Way WA partnering with Earbus Foundation for change this Christmas.

A child’s learning is majorly influenced in the first five years of their life, making early literacy vital for a child’s success at school and into their future.

United Way WA supports a range of programs that get books and reading aids into the hands of children and their families or carers, with the aim of making reading fun from day one.

Disadvantaged children hear 30 million LESS words between the ages of 0-5!

Our mission is to empower families to have fun with reading, making it a habit in the home, and most of all, easy to access. For this campaign, we are focused on remote regions of W.A in the East Pilbarra: Warralong and Strelley, who have limited access to many resources, especially age-appropriate children’s books.

This year we’ve teamed up with the Earbus Foundation to gain access to remote communities that they service, so we can Give the Gift of Reading to 38 children in 2022!

The Earbus Foundation addresses inner ear disease in remote Aboriginal communities across Western Australia. Their team on the ground sees first-hand how inner ear disease affects a child’s ability to read, learn and succeed, made even more difficult with limited access to resources.

With your support, throughout 2022 the children and their families/ carers will receive an age-appropriate book, with reading aids every month for one year.

You can make a difference

We aim to raise $7,000 to sponsor 38 children in the East Pilbara towns of Strelley and Warralong. $180 will support a child for a year with a new book and reading aids each month.

Can’t quite make that amount? $15 will provide an age-appropriate book with reading aids for a month, and a little goes a long way. Or get together with your pals to make a joint donation to reach $180 for a full year of support.

Building stronger communities is everybody’s responsibility. Let’s give the children of Strelley and Warralong a chance to reach their full potential and support real change in WA.
