Workplace Giving

What it is?

Workplace Giving [also known as Payroll Deduction] is an accredited Australian Tax Office program that allows employees to make a donation from their pay and receive an immediate tax deduction. Research shows that this is an extremely time and cost-efficient form of fundraising.

How United Way WA makes Workplace Giving easy

As with all United Way programs, we take care of every detail to make it easy for you to be involved. Our team will visit your business and work with you to present the Workplace Giving concept to your staff. If you decide to go ahead, staff members simply sign up to make a small, regular donation each month – and the rest is automatic.

Easy for payroll

One electronic transfer of funds to United Way WA each month from participating employees is all it takes. We will help your payroll staff set it up and distribute the money to Community Partners according to strict guidelines. Donations are in pre-tax dollars which maximises their value – and eliminates the hassle of having to save receipts for tax time!

And flexible, too

United Way’s Workplace Giving model is flexible, too. Donors can indicate a preferred recipient and/or support particular projects as a group.

Small donations make a big difference

It’s amazing what a difference a small, regular donation can make. A weekly donation equivalent to the cost of two cups of coffee a week at $3 a cup comes to $312 a year. If this donation is matched by 49 colleagues the donation would be $15,600 a year. If management matches this donation through the United Way Corporate Match program, the total donation would be $31,200. It’s a multiplier effect that can make all the difference to those in need!
