What is a United Way Community Partner?

A United Way Community Partner is a charitable organisation registered with United Way. Our Community Partners can receive a wide range of benefits through various United Way programs. There are currently over 170 Community Partners in United Way WA, including small to large and metropolitan to regional organisations. View a list of our Community Partners

Would you like to be a United Way Community Partner?

If you meet our eligibility criteria, you are invited to contact us about joining as a Community Partner. United Way supports agencies and programs within the human services sector with a focus on the following four target areas:

  • Building strong families, successful children and youth
  • Caring for older adults
  • Ensuring self-sufficiency
  • Meeting basic needs

Is our organisation eligible?

To be eligible for United Way WA membership, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be incorporated and, unless otherwise agreed by United Way WA’s Allocations Committee, be operating for a minimum of two years.
  • Be registered as a business or company [ABN or ACN].
  • Possess Deductible Gift Recipient [DGR] status with the Australian Taxation Office.
  • Work within Western Australia’s human services and healthcare sector, with the delivery of these services as your core business.
  • Provide up-to-date financial statements audited by an independent auditor.
  • Be located in Western Australia and conduct your business here.
  • Be willing to work in partnership with United Way WA and other affiliated Corporate Partners.

What are the benefits?

As a Community Partner you can:

  • Receive donations, grants and volunteer time for specific projects that address identified community needs.
  • Partner with corporate organisations and enjoy an emotional connection between their employees and your people.
  • Invest your valuable resources into your core business rather than in the time-consuming process of finding and maintaining corporate relationships.
  • Invite corporates with whom you have a relationship to undertake Workplace Giving [WPG] through United Way. United Way WA will manage the administration for both parties and the funds raised will be allocated to community projects.
  • You will also have ongoing exposure to a wide range of Corporate Partners through:
    • Features in United Way WA newsletters
    • United Way WA talking about your organisation when interacting at all levels with our Corporate Partners
    • Participation in presentations for Corporate Partners
    • The United Way WA website

What kind of support will our organisation receive from United Way WA?

Monetary funding

  • Grants
    United Way WA regularly requests Community Partners to submit applications for grants targeting specific areas of need. Applications are submitted using the United Way WA Grant Application Form. They are assessed by United Way WA’s Allocation’s Committee and recommendations are made to the United Way WA Board, who make the final decision.
  • Workplace Giving Project Grants
    Project grants are allocated from a specific Corporate Partner and their employees who are donating funds. With input from the Corporate Partner, United Way WA identities a project or projects with a Community Partner. For example, it may be equipment required for a particular purpose. This project or projects are recommended to the United Way WA Board, who gives final approval.
  • Workplace Giving designations
    Through United Way’s Workplace Giving program, employees of Corporate Partners may indicate a preferred recipient for their donations from United Way WA’s list of 170 Community Partners. Subject to confirmation by United Way WA’s Board, this Community Partner may then receive funding through this program. They are assessed by United Way WA’s Allocation’s Committee, who make the final decision.

Corporate Volunteering program

United Way WA may be able to provide volunteers to work on projects like painting, gardening, decorating, mentoring, or other suitable tasks identified by your organisation.

Gifts in kind

United Way WA may also be able to assist you by providing gifts in kind; for example, office equipment, clothes and small household items. In these instances, United Way WA requires the Community Partner to sign a form agreeing not to sell or raffle the goods.
