The Dyslexia-SPELD Foundation established the Boost program to address poor literacy levels amongst children from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Boost gives parents the tools - and confidence - to support their child's literacy development. This will help prevent significant learning difficulties in the classroom that often arise due to low levels of literacy.

FAST (Families and Schools Together) targets children aged 4yrs to 8yrs at risk of school failure and their families. Families attend the program together and over eight weeks learn skills which are proven to enhance the healthy development of children.. Supporting services work alongside the family unit to focus on helping children achieve their potential by enhancing pre-school readiness and school success. This program is being run by CLAN Midland.

Baby FAST is a multi-family group process which builds relationships of young new parents with one another, with their baby and with supportive adults and community agency professionals. It develops judgment of young women at a critical family life cycle stage and uses experiential learning to teach effective ways to maximise early brain development, health and reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect. This program is being run by CLAN Midland.

This program focused on first aid for children. The participants were CLAN Midland clients and members of the local community as well as parents from Midvale Primary, Middle Swan Primary School and Caversham Primary.  Participants were able to take advantage of the crèche supplied by Swan Aquatic Leisure Centre for a small fee. The programs were run by St John Ambulance in conjunction with CLAN Midland.


Health and Nutrition

Midland area 

United Way WA and CLAN Midland identified the need to provide families with basic health and nutrition information and advice as part of their Community Impact Strategy.
The organisations worked together to create an eight-week program called ''Health and Nutrition for Happy Families'' to help families enjoy a healthier lifestyle. The goal was to alter the participants' outlook on food by providing practical cooking ideas and the support they needed to make changes at home. 

 

 

 

Let's Read

Let's Read is an established early literacy program to promote the importance of reading with children from birth. In 2012 CLAN Midland were able to expand their capacity for delivering Let's Read packs with additional staff attending the training provided by The Smith Family.

Polish Program targets young people who are leaving school and are at risk of unemployment. It helps school leavers transition into further studies, skilled training or work. This program was run by Beacon Foundation.

 

Lunch with the Girls

Lockridge Senior High School 

Lunch with the Girls Program supports young women at risk of disengaging from school, lack motivation and confidence, or do not have a significant female role model in their lives. This program was run by Beacon Foundation.
